Date Smarter!
Date Smarter started with Grace Finerman, a TV news anchor whose days ran on 3 AM call times and long nights covering breaking news, and who wanted something sweet that would actually fuel her. She found date powder, started experimenting in her own kitchen, and ended up with a caramel that tastes like the real thing but is sweetened entirely with fruit. Her chocolate covered date caramels are gluten free, vegan, dairy free and made without refined sugar, in original, peanut butter and peppermint.
Our Take
We love finding a candy that reads like candy, and Date Smarter's date caramels do exactly that: soft, chocolate covered and sweet in a way that comes from fruit rather than sugar. The dates give them a deeper, almost toffee-like flavor that most refined sugar free chocolate never gets close to. If you want something small and genuinely indulgent to keep in a desk drawer, this is one we'd happily recommend.

Yes. Our chocolate covered date caramels are gluten free, and they are also vegan, dairy free and refined sugar free. They are sweetened with date powder rather than cane sugar or corn syrup.
We use date powder. Dates are low glycemic, so there is no sugar crash, and they bring antioxidants, fiber and potassium along with the sweetness. That is where the caramel flavor comes from, with no cane sugar and no corn syrup.
Our Peanut Butter caramels are made with organic peanuts and peanut flour, so they contain peanuts. Our Original and Peppermint caramels are made without peanuts. All three are vegan and made without dairy.
Organic dates, organic cacao beans, organic cocoa butter, tapioca fiber syrup, inulin, organic coconut oil, organic coconut sugar, sunflower lecithin, salt and vanilla extract. The Peppermint adds organic cocoa powder and natural peppermint flavor, and the Peanut Butter adds organic peanuts and peanut flour. Nearly every ingredient is organic.
Each pouch holds six chocolates, and every order on our site is a six pouch bulk pack, so that is 36 pieces. Pick a single flavor, or a variety pack that mixes two or three of them.
