Its gluten-free Chocolate-Chip MandelBites are baked with a certified gluten-free flour blend using dedicated tools in a separate bake window, and independently tested by Bia Diagnostics at under 5 ppm of gluten. Our take
“We love that somebody took a family recipe this specific and made a gluten-free version worth the trouble. These are twice baked, so they have the snap you want for dipping without the jaw workout a hard biscotti gives you, and the orange juice in the dough is the thing that makes them taste like somebody's grandmother made them. If you have a coffee habit, these are the ones to keep next to the kettle.”

Lazar Family Bakehouse FAQ
Straight answers to what our community asks most.
Are the Gluten-Free MandelBites safe for celiac?
Here is exactly how they are made, so you can decide. They are baked with a certified gluten-free flour blend, using dedicated tools, in a separate gluten-free bake window. We bake our regular wheat MandelBites in the same kitchen, so it is a shared space rather than a dedicated facility. The gluten-free MandelBites are independently tested by Bia Diagnostics using the R5 ELISA method, with results under 5 ppm of gluten, well below the 20 ppm standard for a gluten-free label.
What is mandel bread?
The softer cousin of biscotti. Mandel means almond in Yiddish, and the cookie is twice baked the same way, but it comes out a little softer in the middle with a more delicate crunch than an Italian biscotti. Ours are cut into bite-size pieces, which is where the MandelBites name comes from. They are made for dunking in coffee or tea.
Are your products kosher?
They are kosher-style, but they are not certified kosher. Our kitchen in Denver operates without rabbinical supervision.
What allergens are in the Gluten-Free MandelBites?
They contain eggs, milk and soy. The milk and soy come from the chocolate chips. They are also made in a kitchen that handles wheat and tree nuts, so if you have a tree nut allergy, these are not the right choice.
How long do they keep?
There is a best-by date on every bag. They are shelf-stable, the bags are resealable, and they freeze well.
